Welcome to Heart of America! We're so glad you are joining our delegation at SPECTACULAR!!! SPEC registration is a 2 part process.1) Delegation registration. 2) SPEC (World Church) registration.
The mission of SPECTACULAR is to create a safe, Christ-centered community that encourages young people to discover God, their inherent worth, and cultivate and express their giftedness. All campers will have opportunities to participate in leadership and discipleship development, diverse worship, and expression of arts, music, and sports. During the week campers can look forward to sharing in all avenues of the SPEC experience – service projects, communication workshops, basketball, musical instruction, table tennis, stage production, worship, delegation devotions, volleyball, tie-dying, cotton candy, discussions about dating and relationships, learning more about our Creator, soccer, and much, much more. SPECTACULAR is sponsored by Community of Christ and is hosted at Graceland University in Lamoni, IA. Heart of America is a delegation group of individuals from Iowa and Nebraska. Welcome to our family!

What you can expect from SPECTACULAR leadership We are committed to: • uphold the staff and campers in prayer • provide a ministry that allows for a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and upholds the values of SPECTACULAR • open and ongoing communication with delegation staff and campers via email and social media • maintain the expectations of staff and campers • support and partner with delegation leaders to work through any situations that may require disciplinary action • creating an intentional Christian community
Disciplinary Action If an individual fails to meet the camper or staff expectations, the SPEC directors and head of security will work with delegation leaders to determine an appropriate course of action. It is our intention to be fair and just, but we are serious about providing a safe and sacred community. • Disciplinary action will never include physical punishment but might consist of restriction of participation, restriction to an assigned area, apology to the group, additional duties, etc. • If leaders feel a situation warrants notification, parents or guardians will be contacted. • If the infraction is serious, the SPECTACULAR directors, head of security, and the delegation leaders will determine if an individual will be asked to leave. o Individuals (or the parent or guardian) who are asked to leave SPECTACULAR will be responsible for all transportation expenses and fees. Registration and other travel fees will not be reimbursed. o If damage to property occurs, individuals will be assessed for the cost of damages and repair. o Individuals who break public laws will be asked to leave SPEC and will be subject to legal action by law enforcement authorities.
Guest Policy SPECTACULAR will be a closed camp. No guests or day visitors will be permitted
SPECTACULAR --- Camper Expectations Please review these expectations of SPECTACULAR with your camper. By attending SPECTACULAR, you agree to the following: Because God calls us to create sacred community with each other, I covenant with God and other campers and staff to uphold the values of SPECTACULAR and conduct myself in a manner that promotes a community of faith. I will: • Participate in all activities and work with others to learn and grow from my experiences • Treat all people with dignity and respect. Yes…I know that means no insults, sexual innuendos, degrading speech etc. • Model a positive attitude, a spirit of generosity and compassion, and good sportsmanship as a player and a fan • Respect the property of all people and places. If I find something that does not belong to me, I will turn it in to the lost and found • Report any instances of sexual harassment and sexual exploitation to my delegation staff or a member of the SPECTACULAR staff • Wear shirts, shorts and shoes at all times o FYI.. .that means nothing that promotes alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, racism, sexism or sexual activities/situations (So basically … if you can’t wear it to school, don’t bring it to SPEC) • Stay in the public areas of residence halls unless I am going to my room • Be on time for activities and events, including honoring curfews each night These actions are prohibited. • Use tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, illegal drugs, fireworks, weapons, pornographic material, or anything else of this kind. Possessing any of these things will result in my dismissal from this community. • Any form of sexual activity. • Leaving campus without delegation leader permission. If I need to leave campus for any reason, I will obtain permission from my delegation leader and an adult will be selected to accompany me. I understand and accept that violation of these expectations could result in my returning home at my own expense before the conclusion of SPECTACULAR.
SPECTACULAR --- Staff Expectations Thank you for serving as an adult staff member during SPECTACULAR. Your presence and care for youth are critical to both SPECTACULAR and to the vitality of your own youth ministries. Please review the following guidelines. By attending SPECTACULAR, you agree to the following: Because God calls us to create sacred community with each other, I covenant with God and other staff and campers to uphold the values of SPECTACULAR and conduct myself in a manner that promotes a community of faith. As an adult, I am responsible for providing safe space and a Christian role model for youth. This includes being over the age of 21 and a registered youth worker with Community of Christ. I will: • Participate in all activities and work with others to learn and grow from my experiences • Be responsible, along with the other delegation and program staff, for the supervision of our youth at all times • Partner with other staff as needed to support the SPECTACULAR program • Model a positive attitude and spirit of generosity and compassion and I will encourage others to do the same. If I see something that raises concerns, I will share that with one of the SPECTACULAR directors and not in front of campers • Intentionally visible and interactive with campers from all delegations • Help communicate firm check-in times, policies, and program updates as needed so campers will clearly understand expectations of them during this event. I will honor my responsibility to be punctual and prepared, including honoring curfew. • Model good sportsmanship as a coach and a fan • Treat all people with dignity and respect • Stay in the public areas of residence halls unless going to your delegation’s assigned rooms If informed or aware that any kind of misconduct has occurred, I will discuss the situation with the person harassed and assure that it is reported to the SPECTACULAR directors and head of security. I will not bring or use tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, fireworks, weapons, pornographic material, or anything else of this kind. I realize that such behavior is not acceptable and would require my dismissal from this community.

These expectations are the foundation of our shared experience for the entire SPECTACULAR community. We understand and support delegations that choose to hold their campers to further accountability at this event.
