Each week we hear a Peace Moment in addition to the prayer for peace. Hopefully all will be blessed with these devotional thoughts. This week’s Peace Moment is by Lisa Stobbe.
PEACE MOMENT
Hear God’s Guidance
The scripture for today is Exodus 20:1-17. The Hebrews had left Egypt but were wandering in the desert. They had lost their way. This scripture details the Ten Commandments. This was the Law to live by. The guidance given from God. Jesus came to fulfill the Law, to replace the Thou Shall Nots.
When asked which of the Laws were the most important Jesus responded with “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, might, mind and strength and the other is like it Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Today there are lots of “Laws” on the books. Each city, state and country has volumes of laws that the citizens need to abide by or be punished. If we approach our daily lives thinking about Jesus and his ministry of peace and justice, we will not have any trouble abiding by the laws.
Love God and love others. Be kind and helpful to others who are having difficulty. Approach every situation thinking about God’s guidance given to us thought Jesus Christ.
Please join me for the prayer for peace
God of All Creation,
As we pray for peace this day, we pray for those who are hungry. One in nine people go hungry each day and we are often blinded to the reality of this problem. Would our response be different if that one was our grandfather, mother or child? Open our eyes. There are many factors that contribute to world hunger. Poverty, food shortages, war, climate change, and poor distribution of resources are just a few of the factors. Help us stop the intergenerational life cycles of poverty and injustice that place disproportionate hardships on the vulnerable of the world.
May we be quick to respond to the many opportunities you put before each of us to respond. In the name of the Prince of Peace. Amen.
