Peace Moment, Meditation and Prayer for 10/31/21
Peace Moment
You Shall Love
When asked which of the 10 commandments was the most important Jesus once again did not fall into the trap being set for him. He suggested that all 10 could be replaced by two. First of all Love God with all your might, mind and strength. The second was like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. These two are totally centered in Love.
There is an old song “What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love” That is no truer then than it is now. We have all been challenged in many ways these past nearly 2 years. There were folks even more challenged for many years before the pandemic hit and the hardships of the pandemic have made some injustice and oppression clearer to see. How are we to overcome the difficulties? The answer is Love. But Love doesn’t mean letting others do what they want when it is harmful to others or to themselves. Love is shown in encouragement to live up to potential. Love is shown in self-discipline not overspending, not wasting resources and not taking more than enough so that others can have some.
If we can look at all of our choices and actions from a position of Love the impact on our world will be great. What I do is just a tiny part, but if your tiny part and my tiny part are added together with the tiny parts of others we will change the world. So as we move out in love remember the refrain:
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some, oh, but just for every, every, everyone.
Peace Meditation
How am I being called to express God’s love and Christ’s Peace in my world?
Prayer for Peace
Loving God,
Sometimes when we begin our prayers this way it is just nice words. Tonight, however, we mean it. We live in and because of your Love. You create us and all creation as an expression of your Love. All that we are and have is your loving gift. As the scripture says, “in [God] we live and move and have our being.” And “What the world needs now is love, sweet love.” Bless our recognition of these facts and help us express them in peaceful action. We pray this in the name of Jesus, the Peaceful One. Amen.
